Upcoming Event: Design Jam III (Ann Arbor, MI)
It’s design jam time again! The last two browser design jams were a great success, and the events were featured in a Mozilla Labs blog post.
SOCHI and SCSI now bring you the third design jam in our browser redesign series, answering Mozilla’s call for participation.
WHAT: Prototype or create storyboards for your ideas for improving or redesigning Firefox
WHEN: Thursday, November 13, 6-8PM
WHERE: Design Lab 1, Duderstadt Center (North Campus)
RSVP: http://www.facebook.com/n/?event.php&eid=33711718121
Please indicate via the Facebook event if you will be attending so that we have an accurate count for ordering pizza.
We will also be having a vote for the best mockup or prototype. There will be great prizes and recognition for the winning team!
Submissions should be sent to lizblank@umich.edu and must be received by midnight on Thursday November 20th.
More information about the event:
You don’t have to be a Firefox user or an HCI student to attend. Everyone is welcome. Pizza will be provided, as well as a chance at free Firefox t-shirts for anyone in attendance.
Haven’t prototyped before, or looking for an idea to work on? Check out the latest post on the SOCHI blog for some information about tools available and ideas generated in our previous design jams.
This event is sponsored by Mozilla and SourceForge.
Hope to see you there!

its hard to believe that firefox needs any re designing. It has climbed to the top of the browser list, with a help from a little company called Google. With all the SEO tools and great add-ons with firefox, its easy to name it superior to other used browsers or “not so used browers” like IE5,6,7 and Netscape. Now that google has launched their own browser called Chrome, it will be itneresting to see if Google still assists Firefox with their empire of technology and innovation.

Google Chrome is said to update their browser by summer of ‘09. The way browsers are going in todays age, there wont be a need for search engines like yahoo or MSN. The browser will instead be a Yahoo or MSN browser. Google has broken the seal for search engines to create web browsers. Google Chrome has a lot to work on but for e beta version its quite an accomplishment.

I agree with Anthony, Google Chrome is a good browser but definitely in the beta stages of its release. I see Google dominated the internet in the next decade. Everyone will be using Google Browsers, search engines and maybe even The Google Computer, if theyve come out with a cell phone i dont see why they cant make a competitive laptop.

Hopefully with all the changes Google is making with their search engine, they can transfer this to their browser. Recently they added Wiki ratings and notes, being able to leave a note about a certain website for others to look at. Google keeps making attempts to improve the internet for its users with any spam or bias content.

I love Firefox and all of the plugins that you can download for free to customize your browser to do anything you want! If they improve on the browser then that would be awesome, but if not I will still love Firefox!
